Description

The project involved the rehabilitation and improvement of the existing Bago River Irrigation System (BRIS) in Negros Occidental that promoted agricultural development and improved income level of beneficiaries. The Bago River Irrigation System served 12,700 hectares of farmlands in Bago, La Carlota, Bacolod, Murcia, Pulupandan, San Enrique and Valladolid. The project expanded the BRIS coverage to 13,277 hectares of farmlands with some 5,301 farmers expected to benefit from it.

The project had six components namely: system rehabilitation and improvement, improved water management, irrigators' association development, institutional development, watershed management, and consulting services.

Description of Services provided
  • Prepared detailed design of civil works facilities taking into account appropriate technology suited to the local condition
  • Prepared engineering drawings and construction program with recommendations for the most suitable mode of construction
  • Prepared technical specifications and tender documents for civil construction woks and procurement of equipment/machinery
  • Prepared detailed cost estimates
  • Gathered, reviewed and evaluated data, information, reports, records and documents on hydrology, typography, soil and geology</p>
  • Conducted field investigation on hydrology, river morphology, topography, geology and soil mechanics</p>
  • Monitored social and environmental conditions during and after construction</p>
  • Assisted NIA in supervising environmental management and monitoring activities
  • Reviewed existing organizing concept framework and training modules and provided recommendation on sustainable program of training courses</p>
  • Improved training manuals and modules for strengthening Irrigators' Associations (IAs)
